Bank statement to spreadsheet
Convert a bank statement PDF to Excel or CSV
Upload the PDF your bank gives you. We read every transaction, check the total against the opening and closing balances printed on the statement, and give you a spreadsheet with the date, description, category, amount and currency on every row.
What the spreadsheet contains
- One row per transaction, with columns for date, description, category, amount and currency.
- Money out is negative and money in is positive, so the amount column adds up to the change in your balance.
- The Excel download is a UTF-8 CSV file that Excel opens directly, with Indian and other non-English merchant names intact. It is not a native .xlsx workbook.
- Pro and Business plans can also download OFX and QIF files for accounting software.
Statements from Indian banks
- HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Canara Bank and Bank of Baroda are recognised by name. When the statement does not print a currency, rupees are used and the report says so. Other banks are read the same way.
- Amounts written in lakh and crore groups (1,25,000.00), separate Dr and Cr markers, and dates such as 05/04/2024 or 05-Apr-2024 are read as written.
- UPI, NEFT and IMPS reference codes are stripped from merchant names, so the same shop is counted as one merchant.
- If your bank locked the PDF with a password (often your date of birth, account number or PAN), open it, save an unlocked copy, and upload that.
- A scanned statement is read with text recognition on our own server, up to the first 10 pages. Check its totals against the printed page.
Checked, not guessed
Before you download anything, the results page tells you whether the transactions we found add up to the opening and closing balances on the statement. If they do not, it says so, so you know a row may be missing before the spreadsheet goes anywhere.
What it costs
Seeing the breakdown of one statement on screen is free. Downloading it as a spreadsheet needs a statement pack or a plan, and several statements can be combined into one file. See prices.
Nothing stored
The PDF is read in memory and never written to disk. The rows for your download are kept in your private session only so the download button works, and are deleted when the session expires, after at most 14 days.
